Seminar and Simulation of Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI)
To map the Indonesian language proficiency of the Universitas Trisakti (USAKTI) academic community, the Office of International Affairs, Cooperation and Culture (KUIKK) of USAKTI held a seminar and simulation of the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI) entitled Unlocking Potential with UKBI: Towards a Language-Intelligent Society of Indonesia on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
In his remarks, the Director of KUIKK USAKTI, Ir. Agus Guntoro, M.Si., Ph.D., conveyed several vital points regarding UKBI, especially for academics and students. He believes that the diction choice in speaking and writing reflects intelligence. Apart from that, UKBI functions as an instrument that can measure and encourage us to speak proper Indonesian according to applicable rules to make Indonesian sustainably maintained.
Before officially opening this event, Vice Rector IV of USAKTI, Prof. Dr. Drg. Tri Erri Astoeti, M. Kes., also gave a speech and expressed her gratitude to the activity participants for their willingness to take part in this event as a form of love for the Indonesian language. She also said that this event was essential to preserve the Indonesian language, considering that this nation has around 1,340 ethnic groups and 746 dialects.
The speakers for this activity were from the Language Development and Development Agency of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemdikbudristek RI), Dr. Atikah Solihah, M.Pd., an Intermediate Widyabasa Expert, and Indra Nur Hilal, S.Pd., a technical interpreter for the UKBI simulation and test page.
Mrs. Atikah explained everything about UKBI in detail: the introduction, government regulations, statistics on UKBI participants, advantages, adaptive systems, and proficiency standards for Indonesian speakers based on profession. Before the simulation started, she explained the “Responding to Indonesian Language Rules” types of questions, which were quite complicated according to the examiners. Next, Mr. Indra explained how to register an account on the UKBI simulation page to the participants and provided assistance for participants who experienced problems. The UKBI simulation lasted about two hours and went well. The participants felt very enthusiastic and challenged to get high scores. The hope is that this activity can increase the love and proficiency of the USAKTI academic community for the Indonesian language and become the starting point for preparation, training, and UKBI services at USAKTI for USAKTI internals and the general public.
