Trisakti English Club
A Stepping Stone towards Global Community
The second period of the Trisakti English Club (TEC) program for lecturers has ended. Aiming at enhancing English speaking skills and expanding global perspective, this program involved lecturers from diverse faculties in Universitas Trisakti and facilitated by a certified English facilitator, Daniel Hawes.
The TEC was held four times in August, September, October, and December in different venues.
The first meeting was held in the O Building and hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Design. In this meeting, the participants had to work in groups to solve a problem in a meeting. They practice useful expressions to lead a meeting, express ideas, and respond to them. To make the lesson more engaging, the facilitator also provided some games for the participants.
The second was hosted by the Faculty of Industrial Technology in their Students Lounge. The participants were trained in how to explain jargon or terminology in their respective expertise and majors. The challenge was finding simpler ways, vocabulary, or examples to explain complex or difficult terminologies.
The third and last meetings were held in the Mahakam Room of PP3DT, O Building. In the last two meetings, participants practiced using tactful language in various situations, especially in educational settings. In addition, to enhance cross-cultural understanding participants discussed about stereotyping of diverse nations and cultures.
In conclusion, the second period of Trisakti English Club (TEC) for lecturers has concluded with notable success, marking a significant stride in enhancing English speaking skills and fostering a global perspective among the diverse faculties of Universitas Trisakti. The program, spanning four sessions across different venues, exemplified a commitment to practical and engaging learning. From problem-solving in meetings to mastering the art of simplifying complex terminologies, each meeting presented unique challenges aimed at refining the participants’ communication abilities. The TEC program has not only equipped lecturers with essential language skills but has also encouraged cross-cultural understanding and discussions on stereotypes. As the program concludes, it leaves a lasting impact on the participating lecturers, empowering them with the linguistic tools and global insights necessary for a dynamic academic environment.
Through TEC, Universitas Trisakti continues to cultivate a community of educators well-prepared for the challenges of an interconnected world.
